All of Bioendo's LAL reagent products are formulated without added excipients. LAL reagents without excipients consist primarily of proteins derived from Limulus amebocyte lysate. They typically have a slightly yellowish appearance and form relatively small lyophilized cakes. Although they may not have the uniform appearance associated with excipient-containing formulations, the simpler formulation helps minimize unnecessary components in the reaction system and supports reliable endotoxin testing.

Why Are Excipients Sometimes Used?

Some LAL reagent formulations contain excipients that help produce a more uniform and visually appealing lyophilized cake and can facilitate the freeze-drying process. These excipients may include sugars or proteins that are not directly involved in the LAL reaction. When endotoxin testing is performed, these additional components become part of the reaction system and may potentially affect the interaction between the LAL reagent and endotoxin.

Why Does Bioendo Avoid Excipients?
